Granny Squares Patterns

There are hundreds of granny squares patterns out there for your enjoyment.  Did you know that any  granny squares pattern can be any size you want them to be. From the smallest size to a king-size afghan. Its all up to you and what your making it for. And of course how much yarn you have on hand. 

Here are a few. 

Traditional Granny Square

Ch4, join with sl st to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch5 (counts as 1dc and 2ch), [3dc into ring, 2ch] 3 times, 2dc into ring, sl st to 3rd of Ch5.

Round 2: Sl st into next ch, Ch5 (counts as 1dc and 2ch), 3dc into same sp, * 1ch, skip 3dc, [3dc, 2ch, 3dc] into next sp; rep from * twice, ch1, skip 3sts, 2dc into same space as ch5 at beg of round, sl st to 3rd of ch5.

Round 3: Sl st into next ch, Ch5 (counts as 1dc and 2ch), 3dc into same sp, * 1ch, skip 3dc, 3dc into next sp, 1ch, skip 3dc**, [3dc, 2ch, 3dc] into next sp; rep from * twice and from * to ** again; 2dc into same sp as Ch5, sl st to 3rd of Ch5.

Repeat Round 3 until size desired.

Double Crochet Square

Ch4, join with sl st to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch5 (counts as 1dc and 2ch), [3dc into ring, 2ch] 3 times, 2dc into ring, sl st to 3rd of Ch5. (4 groups of 3dc)

Round 2: Sl st into next ch, Ch7 (counts as 1dc and 4ch), 2dc into same arch, 1dc into each dc across side of square*, 2dc into next arch, 4ch; rep from * twice and from * to ** again; 1dc into same arch as Ch7, sl st to 3rd of Ch7 (4 groups of &dc).

Round 3: Repeat Round 2 (4 groups of 11dc).

Round 4: Repeat Round 2 (4 groups of 15dc).

Repeat Round 4 until size desired.

Granny Square (V Stitch Square)

Ch 28 loosely.

Row 1: (Dc, ch1, dc) in 5th ch from hook (V-St made), * skip next 2chs, work V-St in next ch; rep from * across to last 2chs, dc in last ch: 8 C-Sts.

Row 2: (Right Side): Ch3, turn; work V-St in each ch1 sp across, dc in top of beg ch.

Repeat Row 2 to length desired. Or if you want to convert this into an afghan, keep chaining 28 more until the size you want (example 28 x 10 =280 chains).

Granny Square #2

Ch4; join with sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch1, (sc in ring, ch1) 8 times; join with sl st to first sc: 8 ch1 sps.

Rnd 2: Ch3 9counds as first dc, now and throughout), dc in same st, ch1, dc in next sc, ch1, *2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next sc, ch1, dc in next sc, ch1; rep from* 2 times more, 2dc in same st as first dc, ch1, sc in first dc to form last ch2 sp: 20dc and 12 sps.

Rnd 3: Ch1, sc in same sp and in each dc and each ch1 sp across to next corner ch2 sp, *(sc, ch2, sc) in corner ch2 sp, sc in next dc and in each ch1 sp across to next corner ch2 sp; rep from * 2 times more, sc in same sp as first sc, ch1, sc in first sc to form last ch2 sp: 36sc and 4 ch2 sps.

Rnd 4: Ch3, dc in same sp, ch1, sk next sc, (dc next sc, ch1, sk next sc) across to next corner ch2 sp, * (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in corner ch2 sp, ch2 sp, ch1, sk next sc, (dc in next sc, ch1, sk next sc) across to next corner ch2 sp; rep from * 2 times more, 2 dc in same sp as first dc, ch1, sc in first dc to form last ch2 sp: 32dc and 24sps.

Rnds 5 and 6: Rep Rnds 3 and 4: 44dc and 36sps.

Rnd 7: Ch3, dc in same sp and in ea dc and ea ch1 sp across to next corner ch2 sp, * (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in corner ch2 sp, dc in ea dc and in ea ch1 sp across to next corner ch2 sp; rep from * 2 times more, 2dc in same sp as first dc, ch2, join with sl st to first dc, finish off.

Small Heart Square 5-6"

Notes: (1) 3dc counts as first dc of each Row now and throughout. (2) Skip

1st dc starting on Row 2 thru Row 13.

Ch 27.

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in every ch to end (25dc); ch3, turn.

Row 2: DC in the first 11 stitches, ch1, sk next st, dc in the remaining 12 stitches; ch3, turn.

Row 3: Dc in the first 9 stitches, ch1, sk next st, dc in next 3 stitches, ch1, sk next st, dc in the last 10 stitches; ch3, turn.

Row 4: Dc in the first 7 stitches, ch, sk next st, dc in the next 7 stitches, ch1, sk next st, dc in the last 8 stitches; ch3, turn.

Row 5: Dc in the first 5 stitches, ch1, skip next st, dc in the next 11

stitches, ch1, sk next st, dc in the last 6 stitches; ch3, turn.

Row 6: Dc in the first 3 stitches, ch1, skip next st, dc in the next 15 stitches, ch1, skip next st, dc in the last 4 stitches; ch3, turn.

Row 7: Dc in every stitch to end; ch3, turn.

Rows 8-9: Repeat rows 6-7.

Row 10: Dc in the first 3 stitches, ch1, sk next st, dc in the next 7 stitches, ch1, sk next st, dc in the next 7 stitches, ch1, skip next st, dc in the last 4 stitches; ch3, turn.

Row 11: Dc in the first 5 stitches, ch1, sk next st, dc in the next 3 stitches, ch1, sk next st, dc in the next 3 stitches, ch1, sk next st, dc in the next 3 stitches, ch1, sk next st, dc in the last 6 stitches; ch3, turn.

Row 12: Dc in every st to end; fasten off.

Heart Square #2 7-8"

A friend asked me to redo a blanket for her. It was made up of this square and a double crochet square (same amount of rows and starting chains). This is a great heart square!!!!!!!

Note: Starting on Row2, skip 1st dc.

Chain 34.

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in ea ch across; Ch3, turn.

Row 2: Dc in ea dc across; ch3, turn.

Row 3: Dc in next 14dc; sk 2 dc, ch2, 2dc in next 15dc; ch3, turn.

Row 4: Dc in next 12dc; sk 2dc, ch2, ch2, 2dc in ch sp, ch2, dc in next 13; ch3, turn.

Row 5: Dc in next 10dc; ch2, 2d in ch2 sp, dc in next 2dc, 2dc in ch2 sp, ch2, dc in next 11 dc; ch3, turn.

Row 6: Dc in next 8dc, ch2, 2dc in ch2 sp, dc in next 6dc, 2dc in next ch2 sp, ch2, dc in next 9dc; ch3, turn.

Row 7: Dc in next 6dc, ch2, dc in next 14dc, ch2, dc in next 7dc; ch3, turn.
